NZ feijoas are being sold for OUTRAGEOUS prices by a US food company - can we get in on this?

“Didn't realise I had $1000 just laying in my backyard."

Feijoas are like the ultimate Kiwi fruit, right? Sometimes, we end up with so many of them that we start leaving them out for free on the street.

But one food wholesaler would be falling over themselves to collect them from the curb-side, considering they're charging hundreds of US dollars for the things.

Marx Foods is a New Jersey and Seattle-based online food company that supplies specialty ingredients for home cooks and top-notch restaurants.

They’re selling their NZ Feijoas for a whopping $219 USD ($369 NZD), and that’s just for 30 - 39 pieces of the fruit.

The exorbitant price has shocked Kiwis on Reddit, with many claiming they have thousands of dollars worth of fruit just sitting in their backyard.

“Didn't realise I had $1,000 USD just laying in my backyard,” the poster wrote alongside an image from the website.

“Bro, if that’s the case I got $2-3 million going rotten in my paddocks,” said another.

While a third added: “I've shovelled like, not gonna lie, maybe 300-400 out of our backyard into buckets in the last month. Can I get a mortgage now?”

We can’t even imagine the kind of price this conjoined Feijoa would go for.

Commenters on the post are stunned at the “feijoaception”, with one suggesting listing it on Trademe.

One user wrote: “What does it meeeeannn???”

“Trademe love putting Kiwiana things like this in their 'Cool Auction' section and you might get a few notes for it,” said another.

While a third added: “Twice the juicy taste... drool.”

That's it - I'm off to round up the family to set up a stall stat!
