The long-awaited trailer for the live-action Snow White movie is out - and the internet is DIVIDED.
The film has been causing controversy since the cast and storyline was first revealed years ago, but the backlash seems to back be stronger than ever, with the first trailer racking up over 200,000 downvotes on YouTube..
So what are people so mad about? From the revamped storyline, to the use of CGI and the representation of the 'Seven Dwarves', there are a whole bunch of things that have people talking.
Some disgruntled fans are taking issue with the film being "90% CGI" despite claiming to be a live-action remake, with one commenter saying: "It can't even compare to the 87-year-old movie's hand-drawn beauty.”
It's not just the fact there's so much CGI, though, it's how it's being used. After copping heat multiple times for casting average-sized actors to play the 'Seven Dwarves', the new trailer shows they are entirely computer generated.
“It's already nearly impossible to get an acting role being a person with dwarfism and Disney just made it harder," one comment read.
Game of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage, was outspoken about the film in 2022, when he told told Marc Maron’s “WTF” podcast, the movie was “still making that f*cking backward story of seven dwarves living in the cave."
And of course, there are people that are unhappy with the entire premise of the remake. Back in 2022, Rachel Zelger (Snow White) and Gal Gadot (Evil Queen) revealed the film would reimagine the story from the perspective of an independent princess who doesn’t need a man to save her life (girl boss vibes). This is a far cry from the OG story, which depicts Snow White’s life being saved by the Prince with a smooch after she eats a poisoned apple given to her by her Evil Queen stepmother.
Many were quick to ask why the original story needed to be changed, with some dubbing it a negative impact of woke culture.
Zegler's revelation that the film "isn't about the love story at all" angered plenty of Disney purists, with her adding: "All of the Prince’s scenes could end up getting cut."
The movie is finally set to hit NZ screens in March next year, after its release was delayed multiple times. Regardless of the all the drama, Disney fans still have high ho, high hopes that this movie will not disappoint.
