'Really proud': A group of Tongan school boys' unexpected act of kindness is going viral

“They were raised right.”

A group of Tongan school boys are getting praised for showing kindness to a hard-working maintenance man.

In footage doing the viral rounds, the three boys from Brisbane’s St Joseph's Nudgee College stopped to help their accommodations maintenance worker empty the bins and replace the bags during his shift.

“Humility and respect are 2 of the 4 pillars of Tonga and this small act of kindness is a great example.. malo lahi boys,” Māfana Media wrote alongside the clip on Instagram.

The video has reached nearly 100k views, with people flooding the comments to applaud the boys for their act of selflessness.

One commenter wrote: “I think it happens everywhere with our Pasifika people. Even for myself, I can’t help but see someone working in front of me, knowing it’s their job but for us island people, we are willing to help in any way we can because that’s who we are.”

“We were raised that way,” they added. “It’s our heart. I’m pretty sure our boys saw that man and imagined, 'What if that was their dad?'”

Another agreed: “They were raised right 🙌”

“THIS is what it’s all about. ❤️ Parents and family should be really proud,” said a third.

In a follow-up clip, the maintenance man himself expressed his thanks and wished the boys all the best for their futures.

It’s a great reminder that even the simplest of acts can leave such a big impact on someone's day.
